Day 1

Upon arrival at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, in Nairobi, you will be met by our representative, helped through immigration customs and transferred to Wilson, the domestic airport, for your scheduled flight to Samburu Reserve which departs at 8 or 10:20 a.m.

By mid-day you are in another world, swept up by Africa and all its beauty. Our Elephant Watch guides meet you at Buffalo Springs airstrip and take you out to meet the elephants, and your love affair with Africa begins. On the way you will see many of the northern arid area animals and birds, all unique to the place, and may even find lions, leopard in its tree or cheetah . A delicious picnic lunch is served, seated by the river with elephants all around. You will be introduced to the families and learn about their lives. Watching these gentle elephants is an inspiring experience as they slowly approach, you will be surrounded by their sounds and smells and their hot breath from your car.

At a leisurely pace, winding through the bush, dotted with speckled guinea fowls, warm wind blowing, delicate dik-diks darting, our guests make their way to the camp. Everything about Elephant Watch is a feast for the senses, the simple bush luxury-life of a nomad begins, with tall lythe men in red greeting you with a smile, bright swathes of cotton fanning in the breeze, huge cushioned sofas, woven local mats and special beds and furniture made from fallen trees. This is an ECO camp in true style. Peace, beauty, gentleness, simplicity, and everything organic.

Here in this camp, barely visible within the trees and dotted along the slow winding river, you will spend 3- 4 nights on full board accommodation, which includes laundry, and your every need catered to by our caring beautiful staff, and feel the stress and strain of city life flowing out of your bodies. Menus are a fusion of bush gourmet, with vegetables, herbs, meat and fruit fresh from our farm in Naivasha, topped with a selection of good house wines, spirits, sodas, fresh juices and bottled water. Books, films and information on elephants are provided for guests. At night, a camp-fire and lanterns light up the camp along the river. Baboons call out as leopards stalk, while lions and elephants are always nearby. It is the only camp of its kind in Samburu. Many surprises await you!

DAY 2, 3 & 4

Full days of activities in Samburu are worked out with the guides, driving you gently through the Reserve spending time with many of our well known elephant families as well as introducing you to some of the particular Northern inhabitants - the slim necked Gerenuk, Reticulated Giraffe, Grevy Zebra, Beisa Oryx, and over 350 species of birds. Elephant watching, lion stalking, leopard searching, game viewing, guided bird walks, hikes across the hills, sundowners and a visit to meet some of the Samburu families in their village where you can learn to milk goats, throw spears and make jewelry or spend an hour in the Research Centre, are all part of the day. Before leaving our camp and your new family a simple celebration awaits, on a hill overlooking the great wild north, sipping cool drinks, dancing and singing with warriors by fires lit with sticks, until the night sky is filled with stars and gentle voices chatter. A delicious warm supper awaits you on a candle-lit table. You have now entered your African dream. Welcome back again and again!

(For the more energetic adventurous guests, we can organise a trip up Ololokwe - the mountain of God - you drive to the base of the mountain, ascend and can either return the same day or spend the night at the top overlooking hundreds of miles of wild Africa and cared for by our Samburu guides who will prepare a simple but good meal then drive you back to the camp with elephant watching en-route).
