"Elephant Watch Camp was my favourite. Just when I thought Songwe was the pinnacle, we entered the "mess tent" at Elephant Watch. I was transported and fell in love with the place, our tent, the aesthetic, the abundance and proximity of the animals, the elephant families, the staff, our guide and spotter (a Samburu warrior), and this was all before meeting Oria. She is an incredible woman. Her phenomenal work there is so inspiring. I would definitely return there, with my husband and kids next time. The only thing I would have changed was to add an extra day there, I was sorry to go."

Concept behind Elephant Watch

The idea of Elephant Watch came to me as I was sitting on the roof of my Landrover, watching elephants. A young female walked towards me and lifted her trunk. I held out my hand to the tip of her long nose and murmured a rumble-call while her warm breath flowed over my fingers.

For a while she remained by the car, flapping her ears, ripping grass and twirling her trunk. As I looked at her closely I felt a silent new friendship was developing.
